Buff Orpingtons Stolen
Jan 25th, 2010 at 3:13pm

Just to let you all know Richard Betts had all he large fowl Buff Orpingtons stolen overnight while he was exhibiting at the Scottish National. He now has only the two birds left he had taken to the show and is the second time he has been hit in 2 years Angry Angry. They only took the Buffs and left all the other birds so were very targeted in their theft Angry Angry Angry.

This is awful news..Poor guy.  It has to be someone involved in the show world for them to know he was going to be at that show.  Or even worse someone he actually knows. Angry Angry Angry

Where abouts in the country does he live?  Those birds won't turn up at auctions. My bet is that it was someone wanting the best available to build up their own stock.

Sadly Some real form of security is getting to be necessary these days for all types of fowl.. In the past it used to be just the game breeders who suffered.

Anyone reading this who is a member of other poultry related forums can you please request it be posted there also, I've contacted a number this afternoon and asked it be added.

This is not to say this theft is any way worse than other people who have suffered this sort of crime, its more to do with the fact Richards movements must have been known potentially even to the point that act was perpetrated following and as a consequence the results being announced and the placings he received - Richard keeps a number of breeds and some of his Brahma bloodlines for example are amongst the best in the country, however I understand they went untouched -  this was carefully planned and specifically targetted.

I've posted elsewhere and called some breeders around the country ..... come on poultry keepers - someone MUST know something  Angry .... look out for any breeders with a sudden increase of stock.

He does not live far from me, we never tell folk when we are going out, most of the time one of us are in anyway, and if we do go out somewhere, we tell people after the event.  This is because I had one of my best hens stolen and my pet pekin free rangers stolen on another occaison.  Sandy  Cry

This is really sad.  If it was me, I would set a trap to catch them, but perhaps that's because I come from a police background and hate it when these scum get away with this sort of thing  Cry

Thats appauling and yes, it does sound very much like his movements had been watched.
I hope something comes up and the birds are traced. I doubt they would end up in auctions, more than likely as someone has already said, stolen to build up someones flock. As they would most likely know what quality these birds are and that they would fetch much higher prices with knowledge on the breeder than say they would do in auction.
Again tho, a lot of backyard keepers are paying very very high prices on birds of certain breeds regardless of quality and type. which has again openned another market up to theives.

Glad I have 14 Dogs really. 11 of them big breed aswell. So we don't ever get anyone thinking they can chance it. And always someone here.

But it is a majot worry that everyone should be mindfull of.
