what feeders and drinkers for campbells?
Feb 3rd, 2010 at 9:04pm

Up untill now we have used dog bowls for food and water but now the rats have found the duck pen we need to raise the food. Can ducks eat out of a normal chicken feeder, looking at it the rim seems a bit small for there bill.

thanks

Yes ducks can eat out of a normal chicken feeder, though depending on what you are feeding them their wet beaks tend to make the food soggy and clog up the feeder I use a 16kg feeder with one of these http://www.solwayfeeders.com/productsdetail1.asp?STOCK_CODE=4002 though the ducks can manage the spiral feeders too.

thanks.

Does the food get wet in the trough or spring? My concern is the pellets will get wet and then  soak up into the rest of the food and waste alot. A bit like the normal chicken feeders we have even with large rain covers for them. We are in cornwall and the rain goes sideways!

thanks

I'm in Scotland and at times we can get rain coming in all directions!!  I haven't had a problem with food getting wet in either my spring or pan feeder but then I just feed mixed grain so pellets might be different.  Though thinking back to when I was feeding pellets the pan one did get clogged now and again, have only used my spring feeder for grain.
