Electric fencing help
Feb 9th, 2010 at 11:18am

Has anyone any experience of using hotwires to electrify ?

I have an existing chicken wire fence and want to place wires around the outside.  I have been told that three is good,  top middle and bottom as it were.

Any advice on energisers ( we can get mains up there) ?

Have got someone in to clear around the chicken area as its too much for me so planing the next step.

I've been looking into this myself for the perimeter of the garden to keep the dogs in.  Rather than having the expense of fencing right round, i'd only need to do a top wire along the low wall.

Not sure if this would be relevant in your location as I don't know if you have neighbours.  The only problem i've found is that hotwire fences are generally only acceptable in a rural situation but not if you've got the hotwire on the outside of your property with other houses nearby, even with a warning sign.  I haven't found laws about it yet so i'm not sure if it's just a guideline???
