Newweb site for reporting poultry theft
Mar 4th, 2010 at 7:01pm

I've just been made aware of a new site set up especially for people who have had poultry stolen.

The site is

http://poultrywatchuk.webs.com

From what I understand the lady running it has been in discussions with her local police for advice on running it along similar lines to horsewatch.  Also she has written to the breed clubs to ask for their support.

So if any of you have lost birds I suggest you give it a look.

Or better still, join it and show some support, it can only be of benefit to all poultry keepers.  Smiley

They are reporting that there were two separate attempts at theft in Sussex on Wednesday both times the people were disturbed.  (presume the same people)  so keepers in the Sussex/Surrey area might want to be on the alert.

All signed up now!! It can only be a postive thing to be able to log 'lost' birds.

Hi All,

I have finally managed to join this forum.

To introduce myself, I am Caz and I started the poultry watch uk website and watch system.

It is still very much early days but already we have recieved a lot of support and help from poultry people as well as many sad stories of theft.

Poultry theft is a huge problem in the UK - and it is worse than I had previously thought.  It is not going to be easy to do anything about it but I do believe it is worth a try.

So far we have had a small amount of success and an individual recieved six birds back.

In order to make a stand against this type of crime there needs to be widespread co-operation and we need all sorts of help.

For example we would like to have a bank of volunteers who visit sales and shows who might take with them a list of stolen birds.  it would be good if auctioneers and event organisers coul;d be asked to display such lists.  Basically we all need to keep an eye out for each other.

Also it would be good if there was anyone out there who would like to join who has strong letter writing skills for contacting organisers in a professional manner.

Also we want people to realise that Poultry Watch UK is not Caz's club but it belongs to it's members - it is for the use of all poultry people.

Also, please be aware that it is safe to join and to give information about bird thefts.  We never ask for names or addresses so privacy is maintained.

I hope that we poultry people can work together and make a difference.

Best Regards,

Caz

would just like to say a huge thank you to caz, she has been very supportive of my friend kerry after her break in and would encourage anyone and everyone who is involved in poultry to support caz as this will only benefit all of us.
